Dear Denim and Company Divas -

At long last....they have arrived!! (May I have a drumroll please?!) You have been waiting, you have been asking, you have been SO PATIENT....and now they are here! Introducing Denim and Company's fabulous, new "How Modern" 5-Pocket Boot Cut Jeans!! These were created just for YOU, keeping all of your customer requests in mind!!

Let me give you the back story. A couple of years ago, we offered a super popular, "go to",  wear everyday, modern waist, boot cut jean. Many of our customers simply LOVED this jean. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, we had to discontinue them. So many customers have been asking for their return, have been requesting them on my Carolyn Gracie QVC Facebook page, have been emailing me and emailing the buying team and Gary's design team and wondering where they went and WHEN could we get them back. Behind the scenes, our team has been working tirelessly with manufacturers, and fabrications and fit and style, to get JUST the right modern waist jean for our customers. We have honestly gone back to the drawing board several times, before getting these "just right". We even did an internal "wear test" with our QVC employees right here in the building and got THEIR feedback on what they liked, loved, or didn't like... about these jeans, and made adjustments accordingly! The team finally gave our new jeans their stamp of approval and now, YOU can try them out for yourself! I have been wearing them already for a couple of weeks....I even "snuck" and wore them on the air a couple of times...and some of you have already asked me about them after seeing them on me! I just LOVE how they fit!!

The only BAD part about this TSV is that it's being offered tomorrow - September 21st - when I am still on vacation! Darn! I am disappointed that I could not be there with you in person to present these to you, so I wanted to share with you what's so GREAT about them, here in my blog!

Here's what you need to know....These jeans are loaded with customer favoriate features! Modern Waist....Five Pocket Styling....Flattering Boot Cut Leg....Fly Front....Novelty buttons and rivets....and three Inseams (Petite, Tall and Regular!!)  They are offered in SIX wonderful colors of denim! Dark Indigo, Antique, Black, Chestnut, Evergreen, and Wine!! The fabrication is 98 % cotton and 2 % spandex....the spandex addition gives you the look you desire with the comfort you need! I love the touch of spandex because these jeans are more fitted and slimming, but still have that stretch to fit just perfectly on everyone, so order your normal QVC size!  All of these customer requested features add up to one fantastic jean that you will wear often! It may soon become one of YOUR favorites too! Oh, and did I mention, that the TSV price is UNDER $30 DOLLARS?!? HOORAY FOR DENIM AND COMPANY!! HOW "THOROUGHLY" MODERN!! Some things are WORTH the WAIT!!

Here's to looking DYNAMITE in YOUR DENIM!!

XO,

Carolyn (your fellow Denim Diva)

For September, it's Fur Baby Times Four (and by the way, we have FEATHERS!)

Welcome, Pet Loving Friends, to my Fur Baby of the Month Blog for September 2013!!  THIS time, I wanted to feature four of my FEATHER kids, my "gaggle" of Chinese Geese!  Please meet Jasper, Rosie, Gertrude and Heathcliff!! They started out as little fluffy orphaned peeps at my local feed store (their cage even had a sign on it that said "Are YOU my Mother?", and of course, I said I'd take them ALL!!), and a few weeks, a little house, a fenced-in yard and a pond later, they had found a loving home with our little "zoo"!

My husband, who truly gets a kick out of them, will never let me live that one down, however...."Hmmm", he'll say, "Tell me again how four "free" baby geese ended up costing me THIS much money?!?" LOL

Meanwhile, we love them, their flapping wings, their loud trumpeting "HONKS", and their graceful beauty. They are also great "watchdogs" and "weeders", announcing any strange visitors to the house and helping me with my gardening!!  So, here come the geese! Enjoy and thanks for being such great fans of Fur Baby and such great friends to animals! We need more folks like you in the world! <3

NAME (S):  Jasper, Rosie (Brown Chinese Geese) Heathcliff, Gertrude (White Chinese Geese)

BREED:  Chinese Geese were developed by crossbreeding Swans with Toulouse Geese. They are taller, have longer necks and a loud trumpeting honk, more like a swan. They are VERY LOUD when they want to be!!

AGE:  Four years. They have around a 20 year lifespan.

DIET:  They love most green plants and sprouts (it's been a challenge figuring out what they WON'T eat, in order to landscape their yard and pond!!) They also eat pelleted food for ducks and geese and drink lots of water.

FAVORITE PASTTIME: Wandering around our yard, digging little holes and eating all the weeds and sprouts and plants we can find! We don't like holly, evergreen, butterfly bushes and roses however, and we wonder why Mom keeps planting those pesky plants in our yard!! Guess she thinks they are pretty to look at!!  :-)

We also LOVE to swim in our pond and do lots of dive-bombing tricks!

BEST PET FRIENDS:  The three large goldfish that share our pond. Mom put them there last year and boy did they get BIG!! But, they help keep our pond clean by eating lots of the algae from the rocks under the water.

SECOND BEST PET FRIENDS:  The horses who walk by every morning from the horse farm next door!!

FAVORITE PART ABOUT OUR POND:  The waterfall!! We love to swim under it!

MOST ANNOYING PET FRIEND:  Rowdy, the Wirefox Terrier!! UGGHHH...that Rowdy!  He helps Mom open the door to our house every morning to let us out into our yard. He just looks like trouble, even though Mom keeps him on his leash...and we run out of our door and past him as quickly as we can!!

MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: Can we fly?  Uhhhh.....NO! We can get a few inches off the ground if we run really fast and flap our wings....but we are much heavier than wild geese, so we can't achieve lift off!! However, watch out strangers....we ARE very FAST when we want to chase you!!

FAVORITE QVC PRODUCT:  Mom collects lots of FROG things to decorate our yard with, since we have a couple friendly bullfrogs that also live in our pond! We like the Solar Light Frogs because they keep our yard lit at night and we can see them through the windows of our little house.

You can also see us in the little Christmas Video that QVC filmed at our house last holiday season!! We hope they rerun it again THIS year!!

HONK HONK!! <3

Meet Molly and Ginger - October Fur Babies!!!

Fall Greetings, Fellow Pet Lovers!

It's my pleasure to introduce you to my Fur Babies for the month of October, Molly and Ginger!!

We rescued these sweet little sisters in 2003, while living in Southern California. I was a frequent visitor to the many animal shelters and rescue organizations while living in the Los Angeles area for nearly 20 years, and one of my favorite places was the Pasadena Humane Society. (www.pasadenahumane.org) It is truly one of the best animal shelters I have ever come across. While visiting there one day, (I had stopped in to adopt a rabbit), I spotted this forlorn (yet adorable) little orangey-red dog, who was sticking her nose through the chain link gate of her kennel as FAR as she could....trying to quietly get me to notice her, among  all of other (barking) dogs. She didn't look very old (turns out she was approximately 7 months), and the kennel manager told me she had been found wandering the streets of Pasadena with no tags and no microchip. After waiting for a couple of weeks for someone to turn up looking for her, she was put up for adoption. Well, after spending some time with her that afternoon, I knew she had to become a part of our family and her name would be Ginger! So I filled out the necessary paperwork, and was to return for her in a couple of days after she had been spayed.

The next day, I got a call from the kennel manager, who asked me if I had room for TWO more dogs, instead of just one, and explained that Ginger's  SISTER had just been returned to the shelter! I had no idea she had a sister!! She explained that originally there were TWO of these little girls, and they had been brought to the shelter together. Someone else had adopted Ginger's sister the day before I arrived, but had not taken Ginger. No wonder Ginger looked so sad when I first met her! As it turned out, they were SO upset at being separated, that Ginger's sister had gotten into a fight with another dog at her newly adopted home and was promptly RETURNED. The kennel manager said the two little girls were SO HAPPY to be reunited, that she felt they should not be separated again, and I totally agreed. I said I would also adopt Ginger's sister, sight unseen!  When I returned a couple of days later to pick up BOTH little girls, there was SUCH a change in Ginger's personality! She was happy and jumping all around and playing with her sister. They were obviously inseparable! I knew I had made the right decision and we named her sister, Molly (short for Molasses). So, 10 years later, Molly and Ginger are still here and doing great and are still, at nearly 11 years old, two bundles of joy and energy and STILL inseparable!  We think they look like Cocker/Dachshund mixes, especially Molly, with her wide forehead, big brown eyes and big front paws, like a Dachshund....so we call them Cocker/Doxies!

Here's their interview....and remember that RESCUING A PET is always a GREAT THING TO DO!! You save not only the life of the pet you rescue, but the life of the homeless pet who you have made a space for at the animal shelter! In THIS case, Molly and Ginger made a space for TWO more pets at the Pasadena Humane Society and took up a permanent space in our hearts!!

Love, Carolyn, Molly, Ginger and our "little zoo"

Names:  Miss Molly (Molasses) and Miss Ginger (Snaps)

Breed:   Rescued!! (But mom thinks we are Cocker Spaniel/Dachshund Mixes)

Age:      Around 11 years young (We still think we are puppies)

Special Medical Issue:  We are Epileptic. We started having seizures sometimes when we were about 3 years old, so now we both take medicine every day and we are fine now!!

Favorite Fur Friend:   You mean besides each other?? Hmmm....we have lots to choose from! But, we especially like Eliza Jane and Tallie, pictured with us here.

Most Annoying Fur Friends:  We love to bark at the CATS who live here, and sometimes chase them....but we never know what to do when we catch up to them! (Plus their claws look really sharp!!)

Favorite Toys:   Molly loves chewy things and Ginger loves stuffed toys with squeakers....and loves to rip the squeaker OUT!!

Favorite Hobbies:  JUMPING!! We love to jump up on the furniture, and into mom's big pickup truck and even onto the waiting room benches at the Vet's office!! We also love running around and around the  yard while mom does her gardening!  We also love watching TV and taking naps with mom!!  AND we LOVE getting our picture taken!!

Our Wish:  That every homeless pet would find a loving home like WE did! Next time you're at the animal shelter, be sure to take a furry friend home with you!! And if they have a sister, take HER too!!

Love, Molly and Ginger

Welcome, Denim Divas, to our first ever Designer Vs Diva GIFT EDITION Viewer Poll!!  It's all leading up to our big Denim and Company Designer vs Diva Gift Show,  2 weeks from now, on Tuesday, October 29th at 11am!! Meanwhile, our POLLS ARE OPEN until October 22nd, and WE WANT YOUR VOTE!

Here's how it works, in case you haven't participated before. Denim and Company Lead Designer, Gary and yours truly (the resident Denim Diva) have each chosen a favorite NEW item. We tell you why we chose it, what we love about it and why we think you should have it! (Or, in THIS case, why we think you should GIVE it to someone you LIKE A LOT for the holidays!) What we DON'T tell you is, WHICH ONE OF US PICKED WHICH ITEM!! That's what makes it even more fun! So, CAST YOUR VOTE BELOW, and we'll reveal which of these two wonderful new Denim and Company items won the most votes, as your favorite to GIVE or GET, this coming holiday season!

ITEM NUMBER ONE:

A238426 - The Denim and Company Poncho Cable Sweater with Button Detail

This fabulous gift idea is a new poncho sweater! What a fantastic Fall and Winter layering piece! It's generously sized to layer over your long sleeve t-shirts, turtlenecks or sweaters and features a cowl neckline, lovely cable details, pretty side buttons and a straight bottom hem. The length is longer and flattering and the cotton/acrylic blend is soft and cozy, without being big and bulky! It has just the right weight and a very nice drape to it. It can be worn as your top layer on days that are not quite cold enough for a jacket, but is not too bulky to wear under your jackets and coats, on colder days. Of course it is easy care, machine wash and tumble dry. It's a wonderful gift because you don't have to know precisely what size she wears, because it is more generously cut. And every girl loves to get a new sweater, especially one that is as comfortable, pretty and versatile as this!  It's a Denim and Co Diva Must Have!! Available Colors: Apple Red, Chestnut, Evergreen and Navy.

ITEM NUMBER TWO:

A238354 - Denim and Company Fair Isle Drape Front Sweater Vest

This beautiful gift idea is a new drape front sweater vest, done in colorful,  popular Fair Isle style! It features that cozy, ski resort, yet upscale fashion look and is not only a wonderful layering piece, but is so updated and on trend for this Fall and Winter season. The instant you put this vest on, your total look becomes new again, so it's perfect for layering over all of your tried and true favorites, to freshen up your wardrobe. It's a versatile, easy to wear piece, and one that every Denim and Co Diva should have in her wardrobe! Some details: it's made of 100 percent cotton, and has semi-fitted sihouette, that follows the lines of the body with added wearing ease. It is a longer length (although not quite as long as Item One), and the drape front is a terrific camoflaging feature to hide the midsection! It is easy wear and easy care....simply machine wash and tumble dry!

It makes a wonderful gift for family and friends, because it is beautiful, with the classic fair isle design that is timeless, it's soft and lightweight, and will instantly update any Denim Diva's wardrobe!! Available colors:  Blue Combo, Green Combo or Red Combo.

WOW!! I think it will be very hard to choose, this time around!! I, personally, love them both!! I hope you do too! We'll present both of them on air for the first time during our Tuesday, 11am, Denim and Company show, featuring Designer Vs. Diva Gifts, when we reveal the one that got the most votes, and which one of US picked which one!!  But for now, WE NEED YOUR VOTE on your favorite between the two! Please do leave us your comments and feedback after you vote, as well!

Thank you Denim Divas!! See you soon!

Love, Carolyn

To my fellow Denim and Company Fans -

Hello, ladies! Have you SEEN our Today's Special Value for Friday, October 11th?!?! The minute I saw it, I just HAD to try it on!! It looked so warm, cozy, inviting, rich, yummy and wonderful!! And guess what? When I tried it on, I LOVED how it fit and LOVED the compliments I instantly got from the other Denim and Company Divas in the room!!

Introducing our ONLY FAUX SUEDE TSV OF THE YEAR FROM DENIM AND COMPANY!! It's our Denim and Company Faux Suede Button Front Jacket with Sherpa Lining!! Since this will be our LAST OUTERWEAR TSV for 2013 from your favorite brand, I wanted to share with you why I love it and why I know you will too!

First, it's a BEAUTIFUL jacket!! It's updated from last year's TSV, based on what YOU, our wonderful customers, told us you liked and what you wished was different. The Denim and Company Team has now given you a LONGER LENGTH and a SHERPA LINING (rather than faux fur). However, the sherpa is dyed to match and the colors are gorgeous!! You can choose between BLACK, CHARCOAL GREY, DARK CHOCOLATE BROWN, NAVY (my favorite!), CLARET RED, and DARK PINE GREEN! We're also offering for the first time a matching FAUX SUEDE & SHERPA SCARF, which you can purchase separately. It really completes the beautiful look of the jacket!

As I mentioned, the length of the jacket is longer and should hit you at about mid-thigh, depending upon your height. This will help to keep you really warm on colder days! This jacket is lovely, yet simple...no whipstitching and sherpa instead of faux fur...which makes it a perfect casual jacket with loads of class! It also features some of your favorite must-have features, like DEEP POCKETS, a BUTTON FRONT, and a NOTCH COLLAR (which makes it easy to stand up, which will look super with the matching scarf!) Of course, it's EASY TO CARE FOR!! Simply MACHINE WASH and TUMBLE DRY as needed!

So this season, get yourself a wonderful new jacket that is updated with all of your favorite features and is cozy, fashionable and pretty, yet comfy and casual! Remember, everyone sees your outerwear first...so your jacket should look just as great as what you're wearing underneath!

Before I close, I wanted to let you all know that our own talented Denim and Company Designer, Gary, will be chatting live throughout the day today, October 11th, from 9 AM - 4 PM EST on QVC.com...so be sure to join the chat and ask Gary anything you like about the TSV and about Denim and Company!! Click here to visit Gary’s blog on QVC.com and chat with him! We're Over the Rainbow About The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary!!

As one of the most beloved films of all time celebrates it's 75th Anniversary, we are getting ready to do a bit of celebrating of our own, here at the Q!! I am very excited to present, on September 26th beginning at 9:00pm eastern, a special extravaganza of collectible, beautiful treasures inspired by the movie that has been capturing so many hearts since it debuted in 1939.  With a then unknown Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, and her ensemble cast of unforgettable friends, who sent us all "over the rainbow"! I was one of those little kids who waited for the movie to be shown on TV just ONCE a year, sitting in a row on the sofa in my feet jammies with my brothers and sisters, eyes wide, squealing with glee when she opens the door after the tornado drops her house on the wicked witch's sister, and the magnificent colors filled the screen!! Of course, for the first few years, we didn't yet own a color TV, so the first time we saw it in color, it was beyond beauty!! My husband was and is, also a fan, and owns a pair of authentic replica ruby slippers as part of his movie memorabilia collection. I've shared a photo of them here, along with some of the other precious items from our Wizard of Oz show!

Our show will feature a lion of sorts, and while there are no life-size ruby slippers in the lineup, or tigers and bears (oh my!) for that matter, there will be SO much more to sing and dance about throughout the two hours!

The sweet toddler dolls pictured here (there's Dorothy, Lion, TinMan, Scarecrow, Glinda and of course, the "Wicked Witch", all made by Adora Dolls (Marie Osmond's doll company) from some of the finest vinyl in the world, and wearing gorgeous costumes! They are meant to be played with, by your little ones, or collected by you and they are precious!  We'll also offer a set of three of Marie's "Bitty Belle" dolls, dressed as Wizard of Oz characters, along with beautiful jewelry, watches, special Philosophy 3-in-1 gels which are exclusive to QVC, fabulous limited edition nail polish colors from Julep, inspired by the film and so much more! There will even be a Mr. Potato Head Set of 4 Wizard of Oz characters and of course, you and your kids and grandkids can mix and match the parts!!  There is so much more and I don't want to spill all the beans, but I hope you will tune in and join the fun and relive the memories of this wonderful, classic, family favorite film!

While I am a true fan of the movie, I am nowhere NEAR the expert that our guest John Fricke is, and John will be joining me for the entire show. John is a Wizard of Oz historian, and will have lots of inside stories and trivia to share with you throughout the show!

So, "follow the yellow brick road" to QVC on September 26th and join in our celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz! Your ticket entitles you to watch from the comfort of your living room, since we know better than anyone (except maybe Dorothy), that "there's no place like home" for fabulous shopping!!

See you, "over the rainbow"!!

XO,

Carolyn

Now that Halloween has past and the Holiday Season is fast approaching, I wanted to take a moment to share a few photos that I just took of my gardens during the beautiful fall season.  I love the fall, with its spicy, apple scented crispness and cool breezes and gorgeous color palette! Mother Nature really pulls out all the stops during this annual extravaganza!  Fall shares her most perfect melding of pristine lighting and a kaleidoscope of yellows, golds, hunter greens, burgundys and purples against a bright blue sky, and it is breathtaking!

Some gorgeous Fall color across our front lawn!

So, enjoy these last moments before your garden's long winter's nap....and while she is sleeping, QVC and I will be gearing up for Spring of 2014, looking very forward to visits with our friends Phillip Watson and the Wallien Family, and a wonderful array of gardening items and beautiful plants, beginning in mid-January!! Meanwhile, may I be one of the first to wish you a wondrous and blessed Holiday season!!

With love, your fellow gardener, Carolyn

November Fur Baby of the Month....Meet Tallie!!

$

For the month of November, I wanted to feature one of my wonderful rescued pets, and give special thanks for all of the happiness that my rescued pets have brought to our lives. As they say, it is a two-way street when you choose to rescue/adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue organization. You save the animal and give it a loving home, yet that animal gives you so much love, appreciation and joy in return. It really is difficult to tell just "who rescued who" sometimes!! Here is Tallie's story:

I decided one April, while living in Los Angeles and volunteering for a wonderful rabbit rescue organization called Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue (www.mybunny.org), to go to one of the most high-kill shelters in the city, and rescue a rabbit or two,  just in time for Easter. Rabbits generally do not get much of a chance in over-crowded, high kill shelters, as they are quite low on the "totem pole" beneath dogs and cats. While I was at this particular animal shelter, I did find two bunnies to adopt, but while I was waiting for them to complete the paperwork, I spied a door off to the side of the dog kennel area, which said "quarantined". I walked over and saw a photo and info about a tan puppy who was being kept in there, and I asked one of the staff what the story was. It turns out this particular puppy, 7 months old, had been brought into the shelter with her siblings as a tiny puppy, and had been adopted, but a few months later, was found wandering around the city neighborhood again, and was brought in by the dog catcher. No one claimed her, and by now, she also had a couple of very curable medical issues. Since this particular city shelter was so over crowded, their policy was to put these animals down, rather than treat them. I asked if I could see her, and when I was let into the quarantine area, it was heartbreaking. She was missing a lot of her fur, and her skin was in terrible condition. She was so sad-looking, but when I spoke to her, she was still able to muster up a little bit of a tail wag, and soon, she walked slowly over to the cage door and stuck her nose through, while giving me that (now familiar) big Tallie smile.

The staff member told me she was scheduled to be put down that day, so I made quick call to my veterinarian (the man was and is a complete angel) and he said to bring her straight over, and he would treat her and  make a space for her to stay until she was well.

After she was better, we decided to foster her, until we could find her a permanent loving home....but because she is a Pit Bull mix, everyone we talked to wanted to turn her into a "junk yard dog" and we knew this was unfair and was NOT Tallie's personality. She does have a VERY LOUD SCARY BARK and would protect us with all of her might if necessary, but she is not a vicious dog. She is gentle and kind.

After a while, we couldn't even fathom parting with her. Now, ten years later, Tallie is a much loved member of our family, and is still going strong, although her muzzle and eyebrows have turned a lovely grey. We joke that she "moved on up" to the suburbs, from her beginnings "on the street". She is our protector and yet, one of the sweetest dogs on the planet, who loves to chase butterflies, squeaks at the cats, and who has made friends with a toad and a lizard in the backyard over the years.

I am thankful for the joy Tallie and ALL of our wonderful fur and feather kids have brought to our lives. Happy Thanksgiving, from our house to yours!!

Love, Carolyn

IT'S MY DECEMBER FUR BABY OF THE MONTH - MEET GREY POUPON!!

Greetings, Fellow Pet Lovers!! With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season in full swing, I am happy to introduce you to my most "CHILL" pet! He's the "top cat" at our house, and his name is Grey Poupon!

Grey Poupon (named for his beautiful sterling grey, smooth as silk coat) came to us via my great Los Angeles friend, Barbara Miller, who managed my favorite pet supply store in Burbank years ago when we lived in Southern California. (Barbara is a pet lover like  you and me, and rescued many pets over the years. She is the one who introduced me to the wonderful world of pet birds...but that is another story!) One day, Barbara called me to say someone had left two little boy kittens out near the dumpster behind her store. They both were missing their tails. (We still don't know if they lost their tails or if they were born that way, but it never mattered!)  Barbara said these little guys were super special...she could just tell....and she was going to keep one and wanted me to keep the other. When I met them, I knew she was right and I was happy to give my little guy a new home! It was December and I remember him sitting in the pet carrier on the way home.... a tiny little grey cat.... staring at all the holiday lights that decorated the shops in town, and  the neighborhood homes on the way to our house. We had only one other cat at the time...our big orange tabby, "Orangie Porangie", who had been rescued a year earlier. They soon became fast, inseparable friends.

As more cats, dogs, bunnies and birds came to live with us over the years, Grey and Orangie held court over all. Nothing phased them, and all the others knew who ruled the roost. Grey was always the better jumper, with his very long legs. He could jump (and still can) to amazing heights from a standing position. He was quite familier with the "top shelf" of all of our bookcases and shelving units and the refrigerator.

One day, when Orangie was about 8 years old and Grey Poupon was 7, we discovered why Orangie was never as athletic as Grey, and that he was very sick from a problem with his heart. It was very sudden and we lost him a few days later, despite the best efforts of several veterinarians. He had been hiding his condition very well, even from Grey.  Needless to say, we were heartbroken, but no one took it harder than Grey Poupon. He became very depressed at the loss of his friend and companion, and refused to eat for days and days. We tried our best to comfort him, but finally had to take him to our vet, who was able to treat him, thank goodness, and eventually he came around. That was almost 7 years ago, and today, Grey Poupon, at age 13, is a happy, healthy, totally "Chill" cat. He is now our senior kitty boy, who mostly naps and saunters around the house at a regal pace...never in a hurry, always cool, calm and collected. It is amazing how he can still put the other, much younger cats in their place with a mere glance, or wave of his paw. He loves to hang out with us when we watch TV or observe from a shelf near the kitchen when I'm cooking dinner. The only thing that makes him hustle nowadays is the sound of the cat food can being opened....at which he will appear like magic, from out of nowhere! Now that my holiday shopping is finished, I'm taking a lesson from Grey Poupon, sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the remaining days of the holiday season (and waiting for Santa Paws!)

Merry Christmas and Blessings of the Season to you, your family and furry friends, from Grey Poupon, my husband and me, and our "little zoo".

I wanted to share some of my holiday decorations from this year with all of you.

Here is an "up close" view of a section of our Santa's Best Christmas Tree....Our Christmas Tree is always packed with ornaments ....and each and every one is special and tells a part of our story together over the years!

Our fireplace mantle is "just" big enough to hang all of our stockings, including the ones we had specially made for our dogs, cats, birds and bunnies!

A sampling of our Byers Carolers collection, with our Irish ornaments on the small tree behind them!

These are some of the vintage reproductions that Mr. Christmas did for us this  year, based on my originals from the 1950's and '60's. Many of you who purchased these have said you really like them too!

My original vintage Three Kings figurines. I found these and gave them as a gift to my late brother, Matt. He adored them. They now reside with us and are proudly displayed every Christmas season.

On this section of our fireplace mantel, I've displayed the Mr.Christmas reproduction Choir Boys (they can be ornaments or standing figurines), and they are grouped in front of my mother's Antony and Cleopatra statues from the 1950's. The little girl in the red Christmas hat is also vintage.

This is a rare "lady head" holiday candy dish from the 1960's. (Usually filled with peppermints or chocolate kisses!). I love finding vintage pieces that are still intact. They are even more beautiful now than they were when they were new!

Thanks for letting me share some of my holiday decorating treasures with you! I know you have special pieces that are a wonderful part of your family's holiday traditions as well. It's fun to share what we love with our special friends!  Wishing you and yours all the peace and blessings of the season!

Love,

Carolyn

Happy Holidays, Denim and Company Divas!!

With only a couple of days till Christmas, I am happy to sit back, relax and enjoy my family, my friends, my Christmas Tree AND our Today's Special Value from Denim and Company ACTIVE!!

It's our first ever ACTIVE TSV from D&Co and we have been so anxious to show it to you! Ever since we debuted our "Active" family of separates, they have taken off like a rocket ship and your feedback has been fantastic!! So, today, we're debuting a beautiful, comfortable, chic and YOU....it's our Denim and Company Active French Terry Tunic! (Oh, and did I mention that it comes in PETITE sizes as well as REGULAR??!!)

In fact, this is also our first ever TSV TOP from Denim and Company offered in the Petite choice! One more "first" for you on this TSV....it's our FIRST EVER French Terry Sweatshirt TSV!

Lots of firsts and a very SPECIAL top that you will love! It comes in 8 gorgeous and wonderfully wearable colors....Marine Blue, Light Heather Grey, Black, Heather Oatmeal (MY personal favorite), Bright Navy, Bright Rose Pink, Blue Iris, and Summer Green!! These are pretty colors, flattering colors, and colors you're not currently seeing in stores! This top has the VERY popular  hi/low  hemline, which has become my favorite flattering silhouette! The french terry fabrication is just the right weight for year round wear...it covers any imperfections and is not clingy or fitted, but does not add bulk either!!

The comfort factor of this top is huge! It's as comfy as your favorite grubby sweatshirt (maybe borrowed from hubby!) but has a very feminine look! Oh, and of course, it has POCKETS!!!

I love this new Active top, and I know you will too! Time to splurge a little on yourself, now that you've been such a good Santa's helper all season!!

Enjoy and Happy Holidays!!!

Love,

Carolyn

MEET MY FUR BABY FOR JANUARY 2014..... "ATTICUS" FINCH!!

$

Greetings, fellow animal lovers! Yes, an entire year of monthly Fur Baby blogs has passed and I am no where near running low on wonderful fur and feathered members of our family to introduce you to!!

For our first featured creature for this New Year, I am actually writing a tribute to a little winged soul who has since passed to the Rainbow Bridge, but his story is certainly worth sharing. Each cold wintry day, when I look out my kitchen window, I never cease to be amazed at the fortitude displayed by the wild birds in my backyard. How on earth do they survive for weeks and weeks in the frigid temperatures, those tiny little feather covered bodies, hopping around in the snow on those two little stick legs, or flitting from tree branch to birdfeeder on delicate wings, chirping and singing all the while!!  They are truly one of nature's miracles!

We were lucky enough to have one of these little miracles as a house guest for a while, a few years back. He actually became a beloved family member just like all of our pets. While living in the Los Angeles area, I came home from work at the radio station one day to find my next door neighbor on my front walkway waiting for me...anxiously glancing over at one of the shrubs below my living room window. He proceeded to tell me that while I was gone, and hubby was busy working in his studio, a nest of house finches had blown out of a very tall palm tree along the sidewalk between our houses. It had turned upside down as it hit the grass below, and he had come outside to see the mother bird frantically hopping around the upside down nest. He wanted to help, and turned the nest right side up, as mama bird watched from a nearby tree, eventually flying away. Inside the nest were three baby finches....still so young that they barely had any feathers and their beaks were still outlined in yellow.

My neighbor picked up the nest, which was in several pieces, and placed it inside the shrub in front of my living room, waiting for me to come home, since I was the "animal" person. Well, I had always heard that you should leave the nest and babies alone in this type of situation, so that the parent birds could come back and take care of them. So we waited...and waited...and waited...for about 24 hours. And no mama bird. And no papa bird. Not even a babysitter bird, ever returned.

I called my friends at the Wildlife Center and asked what I should do. They said if I did not try to feed them, they would die. They suggested feeding them tiny pieces of dog kibble, that was softened with water. I said, how do I do THAT?? They suggested finding a small twig, with flattened, spoon-shaped end and then placing the tiny bite of food on the end of the twig, and then that I should try to get it into their tiny mouths......Every two hours! We brought them inside, into a quiet room, placed them in a warm, feather and cotton stuffing-lined shoebox, under a heat lamp, and proceeded to try to feed them. For about the first ten attempts, they would NOT open their mouths. I knew they were hungry, but apparently I did NOT even look a teensy bit like their mother and they were not about to accept food from a giant stranger with a twig!! However, later that evening, a small miracle occured. I was able to gently coax one of them into opening his mouth and he ate the tiny piece of mushy kibble! WELL NOW.....that changed everything! The dining room was open!

Now, every time I came into the room the sounds of PEEP PEEP PEEP PEEP began....just like you've always heard coming from a bird's nest in your yard. And as soon as they saw me with the little twig and bowl of mushy kibble, all three sat their in their little shoe box with mouths wide open. I could tell when they were full, because they all of a sudden got very sleepy and quiet. They were all so adorable!! Well, this went on for several weeks....they got bigger, got their feathers, and graduated to a small flight cage with perches, which we placed on a table in front of a big window. Soon they were flying around in their cage, drinking from their water bowl, and eating a mix of gourmet seed, bird food pellets, and tiny greens and berries.....just like our exotic pet birds.

One day, we knew it was time to release them to join the wild finches in the neighborhood. We took the cage outdoors, opened the cage door and out they flew....one, two.....and......um.....well, birdie number three did not want to leave his flight cage. He was the biggest of the three (at the time we did not know he was a male, as his coloring had not come in yet...but as it turned out, he was....a beautiful coral colored male house finch.) At any rate, we tried to coax this little guy out on his own, we even picked him up and placed him outside of his cage in the courtyard, but he always came back to his cage.  He liked sitting on our finger. He started singing every morning in his cage, while swinging on his tiny perch. In other words, he had bonded to us and was happy to be an "IN House Finch"! So, we named him Atticus Finch, after one of our favorite characters from the book and film, To Kill A Mockingbird, and for several years, he lived with us, and sang out the window with his beautiful, lilting songs, every day.

When we moved from California to Pennsylvania, we decided to bring Atticus with us, and he rode happily in a bird travel carrier between us in the front seat of our SUV all the way across the USA. He loved his new view of the world (and all the PA House Finches) from his new spot in the front upstairs window of our bedroom, and remained a continuous source of joy to my husband and me for the first couple of years that we lived here. I am not sure how long the outdoor finches live on average, but I'm sure Atticus, with his gourmet diet, and luxury digs, probably hung around a while longer than most. One sad day, he decided to fly off to the Rainbow Bridge and we placed him in a special spot in our garden, the spot which he looked out upon, singing joyfully, every day. We will never forget him, and feel blessed that he chose to share his life with us in a different way than our other wild bird friends.

His legacy is that we take special care to be mindful of our outdoor feathered friends, in all seasons of the year. We have many bird feeders around our yard and gardens, and fountains and birdbaths to provide water....some are heated to provide water in the winter time as well. We leave suet cakes out for them as well, and try to leave part of the yard as "natural" as possible, so that they have plenty of places to seek shelter, along with the birdhouses that we've nailed to a post or a tree here and there.

They reward us daily with their sweet songs and happy chatter and beautiful streaks of color, as they fly quickly from tree to tree....from place to place in our yard, going about their day. Nowadays, there is a particular male cardinal, who perches on the highest bough of the highest pine tree in our yard, singing his little heart out each day.

I feel he has taken over the job of "melodious overseer" from dear Atticus Finch, to remind us that in every day, there is something to sing about and be thankful for.

Keep an eye on the feathered friends in your yard throughout the year, and even more importantly, listen to the songs they are singing for you!

With love this winter season,

Carolyn and my "little zoo"

P.S.  Atticus was very camera-shy, so we thought he would like us to share photos of some of his distant family members instead!! He looked VERY much like these little guys!!  :-)

Hello Denim Divas!!

I hope by now you have had a chance to check out our Today's Special Value...the much anticipated and much requested addition to our very popular "How Smooth" collection in the new Straight Leg silhouette!!

Denim and Company Senior Designer, Gary Goben and I had a blast presenting them to you earlier today, and if you happened to have missed the previous presentations today, you'll have another chance to tune in at 5pm with Gary and Jayne Brown, to find out what all the excitement is about!

Here's a bit of info and why I love these new jeans! The How Smooth jeans debuted a year ago in a boot cut version, which was wildly popular! Ever since then, they've often been sold out, and we have received tons of customer requests to reorder them again and again! So today, we are debuting the straight leg version of these jeans, in the same fabulous Denim fabrication - (cotton/poly/span) which includes JUST the right amount of spandex - 2% - to give you a perfect, slimming, flattering fit every time. It also gives these a bit of a dressier look and the ability to keep their color longer than traditional all cotton jeans.

Speaking of color, we have 6 wonderful, transitional colors to choose from: Dark Indigo, Antique Denim, Black, White, Warm Coral and Vibrant Blue! I would not wait on ordering your favorite color and size! You'll want the white ones for spring and summer...and once these dwindle in quantity, it takes quite awhile to get them back in stock!! They are offered in three inseams: Regular at 31 inches, Petite at 28 1/2 inches  and Tall at 34 inches.... and oh yes, they ahve pockets...in front and back!! They feel great and look amazing!

Remember to "wriggle" into these pull on jeans....they are meant to feet tight around your hips and thighs while you're getting them on....but then, as you pull them up to your belly button, you will be amazed at the perfect, comfortable fit and will be SO pleased with the way you look in them! They are constructed to make you look good, no matter what your size! So, order your normal Denim and Company size in these jeans for the perfect fit! Remember these How Smooth jeans will be fitted through the hip and thigh and will always sit slightly below your waist. You will love the always flattering straight leg silhouette, and the wide flat waistband that gives you such smooth look under all of your favorite tops!  We've even included a tiny bit of bling with faceted stone rivet detailing!

You can check out more info here on our product detail page ... and be sure to head over to Carolyn Gracie QVC on Facebook to find a link to Gary Goben's blog all about these jeans, as well!

It'll be "Smooth Sailing" from here!!! Lookin' GOOD in your Denim and Co!!

Till next time,

Thanks for shopping for Denim and Company and I'll see you with more great fashion ideas from this terrific QVC brand, every Tuesday morning at 11am!! See you then!

Carolyn
